Marc Jacobs was born in New York City on April 9, 1963. Upon graduating from high school in 1981 he entered Parsons School of Design and even awarded the Design Student of the Year. In 1986 Jacobs designed his first collection with the Marc Jacobs label. The following year, Jacobs received the distinct honor of being the youngest designer ever to be awarded the fashion industry’s highest tribute: The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent. In 1989 Jacobs and business partner Robert Duffy joined Perry Ellis as Vice-President and then President of Women’s Design. Jacobs and Duffy joined Louis Vuitton in 1997, Jacobs as Artistic Director and Duffy as Studio Director, opening their first New York boutique along the way. Jacobs introduced his secondary line, Marc by Marc Jacobs in 2001. In 2007 he and Duffy started a campaign against skin cancer calles "Protect the Skin You're In" which featured naked celebrities. In 2008 he introduced the fragrance line, the same year also marking new boutique openings with one being in Istanbul. The company has expanded to more than 100 stores worldwide with different kinds of successful lines like Marc Jacobs Collection ready-to-wear, Marc by Marc Jacobs womenswear, Men’s Collection ready-to-wear, Marc by Marc Jacobs menswear, shoe collections, swimwear collection, optical collections, sunglass collections, watch collection, fragrances, the children’s collection and a collection of special items. Marc Jacobs and Robert Duffy are also great philanthropists having been involved with over 60 charities worldwide.

Marc Jacobs, 9 Nisan 1963'te New York'ta doğdu. Lisseden 1981 yılında mezun olduktan sonra Parsons School of Design'a girdi ve burada Yılın Tasarım Öğrencisi ödülünü aldı. 1986 yılında Marc Jacobs markası altında ilk koleksiyonunu tasarladı. Ertesi sene Jacobs, moda endüstrisinin en önemli ödülü olan CFDA tarafından Yeni Moda Yeteneği için verilen Perry Ellis Ödülü'nü alan en genç modacı oldu. 1989 yılında iş ortağı Robert Duffy ile birlikte Bayan Tasarım bölümünde önce başkan yardımcısı ardından başkan olarak Perry Ellis'e katıldı. 1997 yılında Duffy ile birlikte Louis Vuitton bünyesine, Jacobs kreatif direktör ve Duffy stüdyo direktörü olarak, katıldılar. Bu sırada New York'da ilk butiklerini de açtılar. 2001 yılında Jacobs ikinci markası olan Marc by Marc Jacobs'ı tanıttı. 2007 yılında Duffy ile birlikte cilt kanserine karşı bir kampanya başlattılar. "Protect the Skin You're In" adlı kampanyaya pek çok ünlü çıplak poz verdi. 2008 yılında ise parfüm koleksiyonunu tanıttı. Aynı yıl İstanbul dahil yeni butiklerinin de açılışlarına devam etti. Şirket dünya çapında 100'den fazla butiği ve farklı koleksiyonlarıyla büyümeye devam ediyor.
